Mother Teresa
DVD review

This 2003 cable TV movie stars perennial costume drama lead Olivia Hussey as the now controversial nun. The film begins in 1946 when Teresa is teaching at a wealthy convent before she is moved by the extreme poverty in surrounding calcutta. The next 51 years are then condensed into under two hours with strong acting, clever humor, and perhaps a little too much melodrama. Nevertheless, the wisdom and example of the indomitable nun are faithfully depicted. Another strength is the cinematography with gorgeous locations in Sri lanka and Italy. A sweetly moving film that seems timely now that Mother Teresa’s ministry and faith life has fallen into question.
